Sri Lanka will resign from the Human Rights Council if there is an investigation against the Sri Lankan Army

Sri Lanka has protested against the Sri Lankan military's war crimes probe into the war against the Tamil Tigers, threatening to withdraw from the UN Human Rights Council if an investigation is carried out.

Addressing the 11th anniversary of the defeat of the Tamil Tigers in Colombo, Sri Lankan President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa said that Sri Lanka would withdraw from the UN Human Rights Council if the military was investigated.

"It is my national duty to protect the troops. If any international body, including the United Nations, investigates Sri Lankan war heroes who ended 30 years of civil war, then Sri Lanka is not part of that body," he added. Will remain

The Tamil separatists were defeated in May 2009 by the government of Mahinda Rajapaksa, the brother of President Gotabhaya Pakse.

The UN Human Rights Council has called for an investigation into the 100,000 deaths during the crackdown on Tamils. The United Nations and human rights groups have blamed the Sri Lankan military for killing 40,000 Tamil civilians in the last days of the war against Tamils.
