Pakistan believes ISIL's activities in the country are controlled by a group based in Afghanistan, and last month Islamabad demanded that Kabul hand over the suspected leader of an ISIL-linked group captured by Afghan security forces. Was

The Afghan intelligence agency, the National Directorate of Security, announced on April 6 the arrest of Abdullah Orakzai, also known as Aslam Farooqi, a suspected ISIS Khurasan militant with a Pakistani background.

His arrest came after a militant group claimed responsibility for an attack on a Sikh shrine in Kabul that killed 25 people.

The Foreign Ministry had summoned the Afghan ambassador and conveyed its views on Aslam Farooqi, but Kabul had rejected Pakistan's demand for extradition.

The Afghan Foreign Ministry said in a statement on April 10 that Aslam Farooqi was involved in "horrific attacks in Afghanistan" and would be tried under Afghan law.

The statement said that Afghanistan does not discriminate against terrorists and takes equal legal action against all and is committed to its counter-terrorism intentions.

The statement added that there was no extradition treaty between Pakistan and Afghanistan.
