Iran has sentenced Fariba Adilkha, a member of a French-Iranian educational institution, to six years in prison on national security charges.
According to the Dawn newspaper, the French government protested the decision and demanded her immediate release.
Fariba Adilkhah's lawyer Saeed Dhaqan said the court had sentenced him to six years in prison.
He asserted that his confession had been obtained through torture and that his confession had been obtained through torture. He had been sentenced to life in prison for plotting against Iran's national security.
Saeed Dhaqan said he would file an appeal against the sentence. The French Foreign Ministry said there were political motives behind Fariba Adilkha's sentencing.
"This sentence is not based on any serious crime or fact and is a political decision," the ministry said in a statement. "We urge the Iranian authorities to release him immediately," he said.
Iran has rejected previous demands for the release of a 60-year-old French anthropologist who has been in custody since June 2019, saying the demands interfere with Tehran's internal affairs and that Tehran does not recognize dual citizenship.
Earlier, Iran rejected the French government's previous demand for the release of a 60-year-old anthropologist arrested in June 2019, saying it was an interference in Tehran's internal affairs and that Tehran did not recognize dual citizenship.
In March, Saeed Dhaqan said that the charges of espionage against Fariba Adilkhah had been dropped but he was still in jail on other security charges.
In March, Iran released Roland Marcel, a French citizen who was arrested along with Fariba Adilkhah.
Roland Marcel was detained by France for allegedly violating US sanctions against Tehran, which was released by Iran in exchange for the release of Iranian engineer Jalal Rohullah Nejad.
A French court has approved the extradition of Rohullah Nejad to the United States in May 2019 over allegations that an Iranian company tried to illegally import US technology for military purposes. Officials told Iran's Revolutionary Guards.
The Revolutionary Guards have arrested dozens of dual nationals in recent years, most of them on espionage charges.
