Strong Reaction To The Death of Afghan Refugees In A Car Fire In Iran

At least three people were killed and four others were injured when a car carrying Afghan refugees caught fire in Iran, prompting Afghans to sharply criticize Iranian police.

According to Al Jazeera, the citizens of Afghanistan blamed the Iranian police for the burning of the refugees on social media.

Earlier, Afghan officials accused Iranian border guards of dropping refugees into the sea, and the latest incident has raised tensions between the two countries.

The Afghan Foreign Ministry said police in the central Iranian province of Yazd targeted a refugee vehicle, setting it on fire, killing three civilians and injuring four others.

According to the report, a boy was seen in the video managing to escape from a burning car with injuries, after which he was seen begging for water.

The Afghan Foreign Ministry said the video was genuine and that Afghan officials in Iran were trying to identify the victims.

In the video, the boy can be heard saying, 'Give me water, I'm burning', which spread widely on social media and human rights organizations also demanded justice.

"Iran has no right to kill Afghan refugees, it can close its border and deport Afghan refugees but it cannot kill them," human rights activist and lawyer Ali Nouri said on Facebook.

On the other hand, Iran said that about 2.5 million Afghan refugees are living here with legal documents and without documents, while its own economic situation is bad due to international sanctions, so efforts are being made to send Afghan refugees back home.

Last month, Afghan officials said Iranian border guards had killed migrant workers. Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman Abbas Mousavi said in an explanatory statement that the incident took place on Afghan soil.

Officials at the Iranian embassy in the Afghan capital, Kabul, have not commented on the incident.
