US ready to mediate border dispute between China and India: US President

US President Donald Trump has offered mediation to China and India to resolve a border dispute.

"We have informed both India and China that the United States is willing and ready to mediate the current border dispute," Trump said in a statement on the social networking site Twitter.

It should be noted that the armies of China and India are rivals in Ladakh and there is a danger of further escalation of tensions. According to media reports, the armies of the two countries are camping in the Galvan Valley of Ladakh and accusing each other of crossing the disputed border.

In a briefing in New Delhi, Indian officials had said that about 80 to 100 tents have been set up by China while 60 tents have also been set up by India.

He said the two countries were preparing their defenses and Chinese trucks were delivering equipment to the area, raising fears of clashes.

On the other hand, the Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman said that "China is committed to establishing peace and stability in the border areas between China and India, including the protection of its territorial sovereignty."

"Overall, the situation in the border areas is stable, there is a mechanism for dialogue on border issues and both sides have the capacity to resolve issues through dialogue and consultation," he said.

The Indian military said in a statement last week that Chinese troops had stopped India's routine patrol along the Line of Actual Control (LAC).

Later, statements from retired Indian military officers and diplomats made it clear that the real cause of the border dispute was India's construction of roads and runways.

Former Indian Foreign Secretary Nirupama Rao said, "Today, as our infrastructure is slowly expanding in the areas adjacent to the LAC, there are also perceptions of Chinese threats."

Earlier this month, Chinese and Indian troops clashed in the border area of Sikkim, injuring several soldiers.

Western media reports said that seven Chinese and four Indian soldiers were injured in a clash near Nakola sector in the border state of Sikkim.

India and China share a border with the Himalayas, and the two countries have a long-running border dispute, with both blaming each other.

China claims 90,000 square kilometers in India's northeastern region, while India says China has occupied 38,000 square kilometers in the western Himalayas and the two countries have held dozens of meetings over the border dispute. Yes, but no solution could be found.
