An alarming increase in the incidence of blackmailing women with obscene images and videos

According to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), Pakistan there has been a worrying increase in the number of cases of blackmailing women through obscene images and videos.

According to data obtained from the FIA, a total of 95 cyber crime cases were registered in the three major cities of Pakistan, Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad, last year and in the first four months of this year, of which 70% ie 67 cases were related to blackmail by women, in these cases the petitioners were also women.

According to statistics, a total of 39 cases were registered in Karachi during the period, of which 31 were related to blackmailing women, while 8 involved bank fraud, hacking, theft of IDs and looting of innocent people.

Similarly, 36 cases were registered in Lahore during the same period and 26 cases of blackmail were registered while 28 cases were registered in Islamabad out of which 18 were related to blackmail.

According to the FIA, educated women make or make their own ugly pictures and videos and only educated men are being arrested for being involved in blackmail in this regard even though most of the cases are pending.

The agency says the women were blackmailed by none other than their current and ex-husbands, fiancs and male friends.

Karachi-based Assistant Director Mahesh Khan said that not only women but also men are blackmailed.
