At least 37 people have been killed in an attack on a maternity home in the Afghan capital, Kabul, and a funeral in Nangarhar province.

Gunmen attacked a maternity home in Kabul, killing 13 people, including two children, women and nurses. According to a foreign news agency, armed men in police uniforms attacked a hospital in the Dasht-e-Barchi area of ​​Kabul.

Local media say two explosions and gunfire were heard during the attack, while 180 people were in the hospital. The attack killed 13 people, including two minors, women and nurses at the maternity home, and injured 15 others, including children.

During the attack, Afghan security forces evacuated 100 people, including women, children and three foreigners, while all terrorists were killed in the operation, officials said.

According to Afghan security officials, the attackers wanted to enter the guesthouse behind the hospital, where several foreigners were also present.

It should be noted that the maternal and child ward of the hospital is managed by the international organization of doctors 'Doctors Without Borders' due to which many foreigners also work there.

The foreigners were housed in a building behind the hospital. After the Kabul attack, a picture went viral on social media of a soldier carrying a newborn baby with blood stains on his towel, but it is not clear if the baby was injured in the incident.

Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid has disassociated himself from the attack on the hospital, saying in a tweet that the Taliban had nothing to do with the attack on the Kabul hospital.

Suicide attack on funeral prayers in Nangarhar, 24 killed
The bomber also blew himself up during a funeral prayer for a local police commander in the Afghan province of Nangarhar.

The suicide attack killed 24 people, including a member of the provincial council, and injured 68 others. Authorities say it is impossible to identify those killed or injured in the suicide attack.

Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid has also disassociated himself from the attack.
